This Years Klondike was filled with opportunities to experience the past while looking forward to the future. Klondike’s theme was 100 Years of Scouting. All the activities were based on popular activities from the decades such as setting up a 1970’s Voyager and trying to identify “artifacts” from the 1990’s. The most popular activity of Klondike is the annual Sled Race. Even though our Troop didn’t win, we still had fun participating in the excitement. Thanks, to all of the drivers, leaders and scouts for making Klondike 2010 the best.
Even as the smoke of the campfires still smolder from a great summer camping season, the preparation for the 2010 camping season is well underway. One of the first items of business is to actively seek out the absolute best candidates to hire for staff. It is the staff that makes a good camp great and the Samoset Council is blessed with many young men and women who, given the opportunity, will be the program providers to Scouts and leaders who have come to expect only the best from Samoset, Where Camping is King!
If you or someone you know may be interested in learning more about serving on a staff at any of our camps, here is some information that may be helpful in making the decision to apply.
• Paid staff must be 16 years old by the beginning of summer camp. (Some 15 year old individuals who have gone through the CIT program may be considered for a paid position)
• 14-15 year olds may serve as Counselors in Training, which is a non-paid position, but does include room and board for the time the Scout is on staff.
• Salaries begin at $210.00 per week.
• Employment dates vary by camp. For detailed information on this contact the Scott Domino, Reservation Director at 715-355-1450.
• Staff lives on site and are provided sleeping quarters, food, program materials and training to do his or her job effectively.
• Jobs are open to both male and female applicants.
• All staff must pledge to the staff Code of Conduct and comply with all policies of the Samoset Council and the Boy Scouts of America.
• Employment is at will and is seasonal in nature.
The Samoset Council will be hiring staff for Tesomas Scout Camp, Akela’s World Cub Scout Camp and the Tesomas High Adventure Programs through Hanna Venture Base.
For more information on being on staff visit our website www.samoset.org/camping/staff.php or contact Scott Domino at the Wausau Homes Scout Center at (715) 355-1450 or camp@samoset.org.
Anyone interested in working on staff should apply before December 15th.
Hey everyone: BSA has finally come out with a uniform pant that I think all of you will find a very good deal from a lot of aspects. First of all, it is a convertible so you will get the shorts and pants for one price. Second, it is a very attractive price at $39.95. (Don't balk at that, I saw what you guys spend on slushies) If you bought the current pants and shorts it would almost double that price!! Next, you get some nice camping features back like cargo pockets. If you go to REI or other high end stores for backpacking gear, this is the type of pant you will see on the racks priced starting at $40.00 and going up from there!!!! This is the same design many of us wore at Philmont but now available as an official uniform pants. If you have not purchased your pants or shorts as of yet or if you are ready for a size change, this is a great way to go. Remember, you are suppose to be in full uniform which includes the pants and this will fill the bill. Of course, any official uniform part ever produced by BSA always counts as an official uniform part so your old stuff is not obsolete because of a new style. I just talked to the people at our Scout Center store. They have the pants and they are selling very well so check it out!!

Search your archives. We need merit badge books.
If you have any merit badge books that you no longer need please
consider returning / donating them to the troop.
I have posted the photos that I took at Tesomas
as well as other photos taken at scouting activities throughout
the years on my personal website. The address is http://trainedracoon.smugmug.com/Scouting.
Please feel free to leave comments on the photos by clicking
the "add comment" link at the bottom of each page. If you have
any digital photos of our scouting activities and wish to share
them please burn a CD for me and I will post them on the site.
Effective immediately we will begin enforcing
the due dates for permission forms. As a general rule the permission
forms will be due the second Tuesday before the outing. This
change is necessary to allow us to get an accurate count of boys
attending so we can plan transportation and meals in advance.
Troop 592 is now on Twitter. Check the box on the right for any late-breaking news about the troop. Feel free to 'follow' the troop for up-to-date information.
I have created a google group to allow anyone
interested in Troop 592 to communicate via email. Email sent
to this group will be forwarded to all members of the group.
If you would like to be a part of this google group just put
your email in the box below and press submit. You will receive
