The Muskego campout permisson form can be found here. This campout will be Wednesday June 18th through Friday June 20th. The swim test for Tesomas will be given at this campout. It is open to all scouts and is recommended that all scouts going to Tesomas attend this campout. The permission form is due June 3rd.
The Glacial Trail Backpack campout has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
Dear Scout Families,
Just a reminder that our annual fund raising dance is only 5 weeks away on Saturday, May 17th. Your help to make this fund-raiser a success is still extremely critical. We have now received raffle prizes from 4 families and have filled 6 of the 18 spots for raffle ticket sellers and bartenders. We really understand that everyone is busy with family and commitments, but we really, really, really need your help.
Please consider donating one or two items that can be used for the raffle tables. Last year, we had enough prizes to fill 10 tables. At this point I have enough prizes for 1 table. Unfortunately, our local business donations are down this year. Please contact Melissa Pietrzak or Connie Abing if you have any questions, need suggestions, or would like us to pick up your donation. If you are not able to donate please consider volunteering your time that night. We would really appreciate it if we could get your raffle prizes by May 3rd so they can be noted and readied for the dance. Due to family obligations our printer will be out of town, so if we could get the prizes by then that would be great.
This dance has become a yearly tradition for our troop. In recent years, we have raised on average $2500-$3000 dollars, which goes toward our scouting program. We need your help to insure that this dance is a success.
Lastly, invite all your friends and your family. We would really like to see a lot of people at this event. As you know WE ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD TIME. Thank you for helping us make this dance a success.

The On to Eagle campout is April 18th through the 20th. We will leave St Matthias at 5:30 on Friday and return around 10 am on Sunday. The permission slip can be found here.
We are still looking for additional Scouts
and Leaders (especially Leaders) for Philmont from Jul. 23-Aug.
5, 2008. We currently have 4 Leaders but would like more (can
take up to 8). Please contact Rudy Pesut ASAP at 414-427-0003,
if interested.
Also a reminder that the final Philmont trek
fee of $255 is due Feb. 12. The final fee of $418 (airfare balance,
buses, hotel, COPE, crew T-shirt) will be due Jun. 10.
We will
be receiving itinerary choice information and medical forms from
Philmont in March. We will be putting people into 2 crews and
selecting boy crew leaders prior to that. When that happens,
we will meet to select an itinerary and plan our practice hikes
for the Spring and COPE weekend for early summer. We will also
be holding periodic Philmont-only meetings for Scouts, Leaders,
and Parents.
Since semi-specialized equipment is needed
for Philmont, you may want to consider any of the following as
Christmas presents – sturdy hiking
boots, sleeping bag (small, compact one for backpacking and not
a large bulky one), rainsuit (this is preferable to a poncho),
pack and frame (you can rent one for about $20 at Philmont if
you don’t want to invest in one), water bottles (Nalgene),
and small flashlight. This list is not meant to be all-inclusive
but it is meant to represent the items you wouldn’t necessarily
have for a weekend campout or even week-long summer camp. Here’s
a link to the most recent electronic version of the Philmont
Guidebook (2006) that we were able to download (on pp. 16-17,
there is a more complete personal equipment list).

Today was the first day to make unprioritized
reservations (i.e., out of council) for Tesomas 2008. I called
right away and was only the 2nd troop to call. We got our first
choice: Period 3 (Sun. 07/06-Sat. 07/12) at Cherokee.
Cherokee's
capacity is 45. We need to fill it to at least 75% capacity (34
total Scouts and Leaders) so I think we'll definitely be able
to do that. The
site is in an excellent location (right across from the Grand
Council Ring). It is close to the dining hall and Trading Post,
practically right next door to the shower house, Eagle Quest,
and Scoutcraft, and even fairly close to Field Sports, compared
to all of our previous years. According to my view of the map
and from talking to Scott Domino, Reservation Director, with
whom I made the reservation, it is the best location of any site
on the reservation.

Hey everyone: BSA has finally come out with a uniform pant that I think all of you will find a very good deal from a lot of aspects. First of all, it is a convertible so you will get the shorts and pants for one price. Second, it is a very attractive price at $39.95. (Don't balk at that, I saw what you guys spend on slushies) If you bought the current pants and shorts it would almost double that price!! Next, you get some nice camping features back like cargo pockets. If you go to REI or other high end stores for backpacking gear, this is the type of pant you will see on the racks priced starting at $40.00 and going up from there!!!! This is the same design many of us wore at Philmont but now available as an official uniform pants. If you have not purchased your pants or shorts as of yet or if you are ready for a size change, this is a great way to go. Remember, you are suppose to be in full uniform which includes the pants and this will fill the bill. Of course, any official uniform part ever produced by BSA always counts as an official uniform part so your old stuff is not obsolete because of a new style. I just talked to the people at our Scout Center store. They have the pants and they are selling very well so check it out!!

Search your archives. We need merit badge books.
If you have any merit badge books that you no longer need please
consider returning / donating them to the troop.
I have posted the photos that I took at Tesomas
as well as other photos taken at scouting activities throughout
the years on my personal website. The address is http://trainedracoon.smugmug.com/Scouting.
Please feel free to leave comments on the photos by clicking
the "add comment" link at the bottom of each page. If you have
any digital photos of our scouting activities and wish to share
them please burn a CD for me and I will post them on the site.
Effective immediately we will begin enforcing
the due dates for permission forms. As a general rule the permission
forms will be due the second Tuesday before the outing. This
change is necessary to allow us to get an accurate count of boys
attending so we can plan transportation and meals in advance.
I have created a google group to allow anyone
interested in Troop 592 to communicate via email. Email sent
to this group will be forwarded to all members of the group.
If you would like to be a part of this google group just put
your email in the box below and press submit. You will receive
an email with further instructions.
Don't forget to read this month's Scoutmaster's
Corner and Event Calendar.
